Ottawa, ON – Every playoff series was in action Friday night in the Central Canada Hockey League. The Smiths Falls Bears hosted the Carleton Place Canadians where the Bears took the game 7-2. The Renfrew Wolves traveled to visit the Rockland Nationals, where after 60 minutes the Wolves won 2-1. The Hawkesbury Hawks hosted the Cornwall Colts, a third overtime had the Hawks win 2-1. The Navan Grads traveled to the Pembroke Lumber Kings, in overtime the Grads won 2-1.
F | Carleton Place 2 Smiths Falls 7
The first period saw Julian Wasmer netting two goals for Smiths Falls, countered by Noah Kinloch Varga’s goal for Carleton Place. The second period saw William Bouwer scoring for Carleton Place, but Smiths Falls responded strongly with goals from Matthew Dimaline and Alec Hamady. In the third period, Smiths Falls continued their offensive prowess with goals from Shaymus Stevenson, Julian Wasmer (completing his hat-trick), and Hunter O’Brien. Carleton Place’s goaltender Aidan Feddema made 30 saves before being replaced by Ian Vandenberg, who made 6 saves. On the other end, Smiths Falls’ goaltender Dawson Labre made 20 saves.
F | Renfrew 2 Rockland 1
The first period passed without any scoring action, setting the stage for an intense matchup. In the second period, Nolan Turnbull put Rockland on the scoreboard. However, Renfrew responded strongly in the third period, with goals from Dane Carter and Joshua Penney, securing the win. Renfrew’s goaltender Vyacheslav Gordeichuk was instrumental in the victory, making 29 saves and denying numerous scoring opportunities. Rockland’s goaltender Benoit Forget made 18 saves.
F | Cornwall 1 Hawkesbury 2 (3rd OT)
The game started with Adam Walker putting Cornwall on the board in the 1st period. Hawkesbury responded in the 2nd period with a goal from Aidan Stubbings. The 3rd period and first two overtimes were intense defensive battles with no scoring. Finally, in the 3rd overtime, Wyatt Schmidek netted the game-winner for Hawkesbury. Goaltenders Donald Hickey of Cornwall and Dimitri Pelekos of Hawkesbury were outstanding, facing a combined 116 shots on goal. Hickey made 55 saves, while Pelekos made an impressive 61 saves.
F | Navan 2 Pembroke 1 (OT)
The scoring commenced in the first period with Devon Savignac finding the net for Navan. Pembroke responded in the second period with a goal from Spencer Bowes, leveling the score. Despite intense play in the third period, neither team managed to break the deadlock. The game extended into overtime, where Shaan Kingwell of Navan sealed the victory with a decisive goal. Goalkeeping played a crucial role throughout the game, with Navan’s Jaeden Nelson making an impressive 31 saves, while Pembroke’s Kevin Jones put on a remarkable performance with 46 saves.
